Known as the “Michelangelo of the Capitol,” Constantino Brumidispent 25 yearspainting the walls and ceilings of the United States Capitol, creating one of themost elaborately decorated public spaces in America. The Capitol rotundacontains his stunning “Apotheosis of Washington.” The Greek-Italian Brumiditook inspiration from the wall paintings of ancient Rome and Pompeii and theclassical revivals of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
