Recognized as one of the 20th century’s great scientists, Enrico Fermi receivedthe Nobel Prize in physics in 1938 for discovering new radioactive elements andthe nuclear reactions caused by slow neutrons. Fermi’s work opened the door tothe nuclear age,transforming power production and advancing medicine,agriculture and other industries. Fermi was part of the Manhattan Project duringWorld War II, which created the atomic bomb.
