Small and sickly as a child growing up in Italy, Francesca SaverioCabriniconquered her infirmities to become America’s first saint. Adopting the name ofSt. Francis Xavier, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart ofJesus, setting forth with her congregants to minister to the needs of Italianimmigrantsin America. But her mission was more than just spiritual. Over time,her order established 67 hospitals, schools and orphanages in the United States,Latin America and Europe.
